The Perfect Day on the island of Kauai | travel

cecyj travel

I feel pretty lucky that I can think of about 100 different scenarios in my head that would all qualify as  “the perfect day.”   My most recent perfect day was last month on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.  I know I know, I’ve already talked about the Kauai Farmers Market and the décor at the beautiful The St. Regis Princeville Resort.  I’m almost done, I promise.   But I must share with you the details of 1 day of our trip when my sis and I decided to slow down on the Mai Tai’s, put away our books and explore the tropical paradise…

1. Morning drive & a cup of joe at Java Kai.

2. Quick stop before hike to buy Tabis shoe-socks at any local supermarket or drug store.  These local shoe-socks have felt bottoms and a toe glove to help your feet hold on to the slippery and muddy rocks of the Kauai coastline trails.  Note, your feet will get soggy so bring dry socks and a change of shoes for after your hike.

3. Hike the Kalalau Trail to the beach or waterfalls.  Tip: it may look tempting but don’t swim when you get to the beach.  The hidden undertow has killed many rookies.

4. Stop on the drive home at one of the coconut stands for fresh coconut water,  nature’s perfect sports drink.

5. Lunch at Hanalei Gourmet Café for “Da Kine nachos,” topped with grilled fresh fish.   Insanely delicious.  I hope I don’t need to tell you to order a KONA Brewing Co. beer with your order.

6. Shop at Hanalei Surf Company.  Friendly staff, great bikinis and cool clothing.

7. Stop at the Kauai Farmers Market for fresh organic fruit & veggie snacks.

8. Massages at the The St. Regis Princeville Resort, Halele’a Spa. Full disclosure we did not get spa treaments but we toured the beautiful spa facility and bought some of the most amazing scents.  Buy the Malie’s organic Koke‘e Mist, which has been my perfume ever since my trip!

I hope this helps you plan the perfect day on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.
