I realize the change of season is basically upon us already, but I’m not quite ready for Fall yet. Still, these pumpkin flower arrangements made me smile.

You’ve probably seen it, but you might not yet have a name attached to colors or shades that gradually go from light to dark… or Ombré!
Ombré has been seen on the runway and throughout the design world lately and has been a hair color trend for years.
Enjoy some Ombré inspiration and a few of my few Ombré décor finds.

Santa Barbara is one of my absolute favorite places and I actually enjoy the drive from the Bay Area. I know it’s 5 hours long, but I usually power right through it. This weekend, I had the husband in tow so we decided to stop for lunch in Pismo Beach, a sleepy surfing town about 90 minutes north of Santa Barbara.
Pismo was surprisingly crowded and most of the restaurants seemed to have lines out the door. We were hoping to get back on the road quickly so we followed our noses to Mo’s Smokehouse, which had a decent crowd but less than some of the others. It smelled fantastic so we placed our orders and checked out the BBQ memorabilia adorning the walls while we waited.
Wow, was I impressed. The husband got the shredded chicken sandwich with Mo’s own “filthy” BBQ sauce. I got Mo’s Chipotle Lime Tacos with marinated shredded chicken and sweet and spicy sauce (I’d do anything for the recipe). We shared a side order of fried green tomatoes. YUM Mo!

I just zipped home from a quick trip to Santa Barbara to tour the 2012 Santa Barbara Design House.
Located in the hills of stunning Montecito, the home was built by Phillip Pennestri of Pennco Properties and designed by internationally recognized architect, Peter Becker. It’s a perfect combination of east coast shingle style with all the comforts of California living.
I met so many talented designers & vendors and I look forward to highlighting several of my favorites in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here are a few shots of the spectacular house.

Truth be told, this was a tough week for me to set time aside to see a movie. Life seems to be going faster and I feel a bit behind. The husband and I had hoped to make the evening into a date night but I found myself in traffic driving (late) to the movie (by myself) wondering if I will ever learn to NOT over commit.
But as with most things in life, everything happens for a reason and Won’t Back Down turned out to be a perfect opportunity to regroup and think about my role as a woman, a wife and a parent.
The film is about two determined mothers, one a teacher, who look to transform their children’s failing inner city school. Facing a powerful and entrenched bureaucracy, they risk everything to make a difference in the education and future of their children.
It reminded me of the parent I want to be… filled with passion, leading my boys without fear and with a relentless commitment to giving them every opportunity my husband and I are capable of providing. We’ve all become accustomed to receiving without question in this country and Won’t Back Down forced me to think about the public education system, how it works, what’s missing, and why.
Education is a privilege and seeing Won’t Back Down solidified my perspective that parents can’t close their eyes, send their kids to school, and just hope it “works out.” The film sends a powerful message to anyone and everyone who is touched by the American education system to step back into the game and assume the role of leader to children.
Many thanks to Circle of Moms for a great evening and movie. It was such a pleasure to be included.

Loved seeing Reece Witherspoon’s Ojai, California home in Elle Décor this month. That pretty little lady seems like such a down-to-earth gem.
Reece worked with the incredibly talented interior designer Kristen Buckingham to create her getaway retreat. Kristen has an eye for new traditional style with a California twist which was impeccably executed in Reece’s retreat.
The historic home is the work of Wallace Neff, one of my favorite architects basically responsible for developing the distinctive architectural style referred to as “California” style.
Enjoy the photos of the home. It is such an understated beauty… just like Reece.

Let me preface this post by saying I have thrown down an unspeakable about of money for throw pillows. I prefer couches to be custom and shoes to be Prada. That being said, I realize sometimes we need to pare down our expectations to fit our budgets.
I firmly believe that style is everywhere and accessible to everyone at every price point so I’m certainly not ashamed to suggest Ikea to my clients for certain kid friendly projects or… use in my own home, for that matter.
I hit Ikea a few weeks ago and here is a list of my loot and a few of my all time favorite Ikea purchases…
3. L e t t e r ART.
4. I don’t love all the Ikea throws but this white and black stripe “chic” beauty feels and looks wonderful. I bought 4 as hostess gifts for the future.
5. The mother of all salad bowls. I have 2… 1 for me and 1 for my sister when we’re in the kitchen together. Whether tossing a pasta salad for a BBQ or carefully mixing the secret Thanksgiving stuffing recipe this bowl is always our “go to.”

While in Santa Barbara a few weeks ago visiting my magnificent friend, I made a comment that I loved her bracelet… Turns out the darling bracelet also doubles as a hair band.
True to form, she sent me one as a surprise gift that just arrived. Thank you, my dear.
