I love to travel and I love it even more when I land in a hotel that has impeccable decor like Solage Calistoga.  Obviously, I’m fan of the resort given the amazing giveaway we’re hosting with the property and VIX Swimwear, but beyond a great spa the property is such a nice mix of traditional and contemporary furniture, finishes and materials.  The architect, Howard Backend, and Interior Design firm Dowling Kimm Studios did a brilliant job creating a sophisticated yet not too stuffy property with clean and effortless style.  I hope you enjoy these wonderful photos.

Oh, and don’t forget to sign up for our giveaway which includes a two-night stay at Solage, two signature mudslide treatments, daily access to the geothermal soaking pools and, to top it off, a Web Exclusive bikini, cover-up and flip flops from the ViX Swimwear website.  Yes, seriously!

To enter to win, here’s what you need to do:

1. “Like” all three of our Facebook pages (Solage CalistogaViX Swimwear & cecyj).

2. Click here to fill out the entry form and view rules and details.

Entries will be accepted starting Friday, January 6, 2012 until 11:59pm PST, Monday, January 30, 2012.  One randomly selected winner will be announced on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Stay will be subject to availability, Sunday-Thursday. Excluding holidays.  Good Luck!

Happy Thursday everyone!  I came across this photo and I’m feeling very inspired by the blues and pop of green.  I love this color palette for a family room, bathroom, or laundry room?  The options seem endless & the ice-cream cone is calling my name…

As you know, one of my 2012 New Year’s resolutions is to get better organized.  Of course, I hit the internet for some inspiration and I found the amazing blog, IHeart Organizing.  There is so much fun stuff here but what really inspired me was author Jen’s laundry room.  She does such a nice job mixing and matching affordable solutions.

Many thanks for the great ideas, Jen.

a girl to know | life + style

life+style travel interview cecyj

I just love to learn a city from someone who really knows it.  Kendra Cole is the girl to know when it comes to Los Angeles.  For over a decade, she has been the face and operator of the world-renowned hotspot, SKYBAR, in the Mondrian Hotel.  This lovely sun-kissed California girl took time out of her busy schedule to share some secrets and give us her L.A. travel tips.  Thank you so much Kendra, such a pleasure!

Walk me through your perfect day-off in L.A?

My perfect day off is sleeping in, then going for a hike in Temescal Canyon and relaxing on the beach in Malibu.  I rarely get to do this, but when I do, it’s time I cherish.

What’s hot in the cocktail world right now?

Our most popular drink is the Mojito.  It’s a classic and always a hit, especially in the summer time.  Every bar should have rum, mint leaves, limes and a muddler!  I also love Gin inspired cocktails, with cucumber or basil and grapefruit….very refreshing!

Okay, gives us the scoop… ever been starstruck?

The most starstruck moment I’ve ever had was a night when the UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and Stevie Wonder were both at SKYBAR hanging out together.  It was such an odd pairing of celebrities, but fascinating to watch them interact!                              Both men were extremely gracious and humble.

I would imagine your hours can get a little tough.  How do you always manage to look fresh-faced and ready to go?

I learned very early on that nothing good happens after 2am.  I have never been one to go to after hour parties or grab drinks after work.  I think this has been my best secret after 12 years in the bar business.

What is the number 1 beauty secret you’ve learned living in L.A?

Lots of sunscreen and to always wear a hat when I’m in the sun.

What is your one piece of advice for splendid living in L.A.?

There are so many amazing things to do in LA on a daily basis.  The best way to live “splendidly” is to take advantage of the great places to visit.  Spend the afternoon at the Getty Museum or Getty Villa.  Horse back ride past the Hollywood sign and bike                ride along the beach in Santa Monica.

Let’s talk L.A…  I’ve just landed for a 2-night trip with my girlfriends.  What’s next?  Where should we…

city guide los angeles

1. Grab a sunset cocktail on the beach?  The Sunset Restaurant (Malibu)

2. Check-in?  Mondrian Hotel (obviously!)

5. + 7. Eat Lunch?  Either Mauro’s at Fred Segal or Cafe Med at Sunset Plaza—both are great food and great people watching.

6. Eat Dinner?  My weekly go to place is Chateau Marmont in the courtyard…best spaghetti Bolognese ever.

5. Shop for unique “only in L.A” find?  Fred Segal.  I recently bought a beautiful necklace with a “K” engraved on it from there.

4. + 8. Sightsee?  Top 3 places we shouldn’t miss?  The Getty Villa in Malibu and The Getty Museum (two of my all time favorite views and places to see art), then Chinese Mann’s Theatre to see all the hand prints for the stars.

9. Drink champagne?  Best place to drink champagne is at SKYBAR

3. Do Yoga?  I prefer Pilates and Cardio Barre Ballet

-Book a massage?  Aurora’s Massage on Sunset…$25 for 60 mins (feet and back)

-Grab coffee?  I love to have an afternoon coffee at Urth Cafe on Melrose.

-People watch?  Grab lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel poolside cafe…great atmosphere and people watching.

When I was expecting, I had a full blown panic attack the first time I walked into Babies”R”Us.  I waddled from rocker to crib and through the aisles and aisles of strollers, bath toys, bottles and diapers.  At that moment, I worried that motherhood might not be for me… stylistically.

Every year, baby products seem to get more chic. Nursery furniture more closely matches how we would decorate our homes.  Some products I’m loving for the modern baby.  I hope you enjoy.

Decor, Outdoor Living

project peek | decor

san francisco interior designer, decorator cecyjI recently completed a fun design job with my partner, Holly Bender of Holly Bender Interiors.  We were assigned the task of converting a tiny, unused, outdoor deck in a beautiful San Francisco home into a functional outdoor living area for a family.  The challenge, of course, was to squeeze usable furniture into such a tight space (only 8ft x 8ft) and create an oasis that would also be aesthetically pleasing when looking out from the kitchen and main living areas of the home.

As any urban dweller knows, it’s tough to make the most of an outdoor space but such a true pleasure when you can make a small yard, garden or outdoor eating area part of your everyday living.  I don’t care how great a space looks if it isn’t functional!  I hope we pulled that off for our terrific client.

Here is a peek at the before and a few shots of the after.  This outdoor room was such a fun project to complete.

If you’d like to learn more about cecyj’s design services, please shoot me an email at info@cecyj.com.  You can connect with Holly directly at hollybender.com.

Yep, there’s no way around it… the Holidays are over and it’s time to regroup mentally, physically and spiritually.  I actually always love the arrival of a New Year.  I enjoy the time to reflect and prioritize what’s to come.  I also enjoy setting goals and new expectations for myself and my family.

I’m feeling especially excited for the goals I’ve set for 2012 after I had the opportunity to get some expert advice from Sophie Jaffe, the co-founder of Zuddha, a company focused on clean, natural & healthy living.  Sophie is a certified and classically trained vegan/raw chef, holistic nutritionist and yoga instructor.  Along with her business partner Dani, she has cooked for Hollywood icons and strives to bring wellness to each of her clients lives.  Sophie graciously answered all of my questions that were top of mind and most pressing on my family these days.  I hope you enjoy her fun and informative answers.diet, cancer, healthy living zuddha girls

When I wake up, I spend the first hour with my 15-month-old son. We play, giggle, eat breakfast, then immediately put on clothes and shoes and go outside.  I try to keep the phone away during these times unless something super pending is happening.  He starts my day off with a fresh, pure perspective.  He is beauty and he is light.  I hold that light all day long with me in my pocket… which is my emotional and spiritual health.  As far as my physical health goes, I usually go to the gym right after I leave the house.  Sometimes I bring my son (there’s a child watch) and sometimes I go alone or with my husband.  I try and go 4-5 times per week. It allows me to clear my head and just focus on me before I give my whole day to my clients, business and co-workers.  I love yoga, running and weight lifting.  I get as many raw, vibrant, living, superfood rich foods throughout the day as possible.  I’m constantly fueling on superfood smoothies and regenerating juices so that I can keep my energy levels soaring, naturally.  Coffee makes me crash.  There’s no time for a crash in this business.  Then at night I put my phone away the moment I walk into the house, and focus solely on my son, making dinner for our family and playtime.  Then at the end of the day I try and do at least 10 minutes of yoga or meditation, it allows me to reconnect to my truest/best self and wind down in preparation for the next day of madness and stay grounded.
