My friend Dr. Harley Rotbart was kind enough to send me a copy of his book “940 Saturdays: Family Activities and a Keepsake Journal.” It is also a follow up to “No Regrets Parenting” and is aptly named after the 940 Saturdays between a child’s birth and the day he or she turns 18. The journal is beautiful with cover art by Lisa Congdon and is a brilliant way to stop, take a deep breath, and record what you were up to for the most important times of your life as a family unit.
The journal is such a unique way to jot down those special moments that make up the story of a family. My favorite part, tucked in back in a secret envelope, is a guide to kids developmental milestones and a fantastic list of family activity ideas. 940 Saturdays is on my gift guide list for anyone expecting a first baby, or those families that would enjoy the memories this book can help provide.
I love this book for no other reason than life seems to be moving faster and faster these days and a journal like 940 Saturdays allows me to stop and be thoughtful about how to make every day count. And, in all honesty… I will probably forget to write in my “940 Journal” every Saturday but the effort and the time to stop and enjoy my young family is what I look forward to… and I think that’s the point of this thoughtful family tool.
