The Cecy J Interiors – Black Kitchen Door

Thank you for stopping by to learn how we made the Cecy J – Black Kitchen Door come to life.  I was inspired by a large black door I had seen while grabbing dinner in Venice Beach, California.  It felt chic and interesting but not over decorated or too demanding of attention.

When a project came up which included a black + white color scheme, I knew it was my chance to incorporate the image that had been dancing in my head.

I landed on a Rouge Valley Wood door.  They offered the ability to customize the glass and the ogees (the lines and shapes of the moulding on the door).  If you have not noticed before, you should always pay attention to the number of ogees on doors, window frames or moulding.  It makes a big difference on how traditional, detailed or simple a home feels.

The next step was picking the perfect paint color.  I knew it had to be glossy or a really beautiful lacquer and a true “no funny business” black.  This led me to Farrow & Ball Off Black in Full Gloss.  It’s such a glorious true black but it’s still somehow a calm color… and nobody does Glossy quite like Farrow & Ball.

Last (but probably the most important detail) was the jewelry, i.e, HARDWARE!  With a young family of three boys, a kick plate on the inside not only felt like a lovely finishing touch… it also felt extremely practical for a door that would usher busy kids in and out of the backyard daily.

We’ve worked with Rocky Mountain Hardware for years and we seem to weave them into almost every design project… so the decision to use their perfect hardware was an easy one.  My favorite finish by Rocky Mountain Hardware is Silicon Bronze Light.  It’s got a lovely gold undertone but it is also a chameleon and will live happily with just about any other finish you layer into the design scheme.

Kitchen Design Shaker Cabinets

One site I’ve visited what feels like a million times for inspiration is deVOL Kitchens.  Based out of the charming town of Loughborough, England, their kitchen designs are simple and timeless but still current.

Here are a few of my favorite deVOL designed kitchens.  They seemed to be known for their use of  shaker style cabinets mixed and various reclaimed woods and stains. Nothing they do necessary matches, but it all works beautifully together.  Thank you, deVOL, for creating approachable beauty.

Head to their website where you can purchase design services and kitchen/bath accessories.

How darling is this seasonal poster by Oeuf?  Could it be any cuter for a mudroom or kitchen breakfast room?

Costal Living Coronado Showhouse | Decor

I came across the photo tour of the Costal Living Coronado Showhouse via Derring Hall today and it’s truly everything you would hope for in a California Beach retreat.

Built by Flagg Coastal Homes and designed by Los Angeles based Betsy Burnham and Max Humphrey, the home is a true nod to fresh, elegant and casual California living.  I love that they did everything they could to take advantage of the ocean views by putting the sleeping quarters downstairs and the living space upstairs.

Sawyer Benson | Decor

I’ve been in a rather “traditional home” mood lately and nobody seems to be doing it better than Sawyer | Benson… an architecture, landscape, and interior design firm based out of New York City.

Their thoughtful mix of traditional exteriors paired with more modern and clean interiors is truly inspiring.

A few of my favorite snaps from their various projects.

Nine Space | Life + Style

I’m really loving all of the new online boutiques that keep popping up.  One in particular that caught my eye recently is Nine Space!

I was drawn to them for their overwhelming attention to detail and perfectly photographed products.  They jump off the pages and help tell a beautiful story of what they’re about – which is simply artisan decor, cozy throws and dreamy bathrobes.  They also have amazing yellow dip-died napkins that are a must for Spring.

Although small with only 8 employees, Nine Space seems to be lean and mean, selling their thoughtful items to over 400 retailers, spas and hotels.  They were named one of the top 100 private consumer product companies in 2013.

I pulled some of my favorite shots from their lookbooks and listed the products that I feel pair perfectly with the vibe.

Also, Nine Space heard we were fans over at Cecy J and offered a discount to our readers.  Between now and April 30th they are offering our readers 30% off ALL items!  Just enter CecyJLove at checkout.

Happy Nine Space hunting for Spring.

A friend of mine, who also happens to have a terrific Public Relations firm in San Francisco was filling me in on one of her new clients.  I immediately asked if I could interview the founder, Diana Vincent for a blog post about her recently launched High Camp Home.  What started as a brick and mortar boutique and premier design firm in historical downtown Truckee, California, in the Tahoe area has stretched its wings into a fabulous e-commerce site.  High Camp Home makes sprucing-up the ski cabin an incredibly easy task!

High Camp Home is cholk-full of all the chic rustic lifestyle essentials including furniture, lighting, accessories rugs and seasonal decor.  My favorite detail over at High Camp Home is the local artists work available for purchase, making it easy to find the finishing touches for decorating with a relaxed, yet polished vibe.

With the leaves starting to fall and the wind blowing outside just about every item over at High Camp Home is on my “must have” list for fall and winter

A few of my  absolute favorites…

Happy fall + winter shopping and a huge thanks to High Camp Home

1.) What is your signature style?

My signature style is sophisticated rustic design.  No bears or moose allowed!  I love combining texture with natural materials to create space that is warm and inviting but rustic and rugged enough to withstand the active lifestyles of my clientele and the harsh climates that surrounds most of the homes we work with.

2.) The perfect carpet brand/ line for a Tahoe cabin to withstand snow & ski boots?

In reality, the perfect carpet is really WOOD as it is durable and wears well.

chic rustic sliding barn door

3.) Go to paint color/ brand?

For a white paint that is warm and works well in most settings, Pratt and Lambert Milk White.

4.) Favorite, product you have in stock right now?

As it is fall, I love pulling out the blankets and throws and currently our store is filled with some wonderful throws that are not too heavy but have fabulous texture and rope like tassels.  The Europa throw in camel is my favorite, although our Halloween Ghosts are seen walking down the street with customers visiting our store everyday, this time of year!

5.) The perfect stocking stuffer for Mom?

Pairing the Chalet Stripe Scarf with the Decorated Hoop Earrings is a great combination.  Throw on a pair of Uggs, cozy sweater and jeans with this scarf and earrings and you are good to go anywhere in Tahoe!

6.)  You are based in the in Tahoe area.  Give us the scoop…

Where should we….

I like the simple European feel of the Cedar House, but if you want a resort feel the Ritz Carlton being right on the mountain is a great way to spend a weekend.
